Cryptocurrency payment processors
Cryptocurrency payment processors make it easy for merchants to accept Bitcoin, Ethereum, stablecoins, and other digital currencies. These services handle the technical complexity of blockchain payments, provide checkout interfaces, and optionally convert crypto to fiat currency for deposit to your bank account.
Whether you run an e-commerce store, a subscription service, or a physical retail location, there is a payment processor that fits your needs. Browse our comparison below to compare fees, supported coins, integrations, and key features.
How to choose a crypto payment processor
Not all payment processors are the same. The right choice depends on your business model, technical expertise, and which cryptocurrencies you want to accept. Here are the key factors to consider:
Fees
Transaction fees range from 0% (self-hosted) to 2% (hosted). Factor in conversion spreads if you need fiat settlement. BitPay charges 1-2%, Coinbase Commerce charges 1%, NOWPayments charges 0.5%, and BTCPay Server is free.
Supported coins
Some processors support only Bitcoin and Ethereum. Others support 100+ altcoins. If you want to accept niche cryptocurrencies, choose NOWPayments or CoinGate. If you only need Bitcoin and Lightning, BTCPay Server is ideal.
Fiat settlement
If you need to convert crypto to fiat automatically, BitPay, Coinbase Commerce, and CoinGate offer direct bank settlement. BTCPay Server does not provide fiat conversion — you receive Bitcoin directly.
Technical setup
Hosted processors (BitPay, Coinbase Commerce, CoinGate) require minimal setup. Self-hosted solutions (BTCPay Server) require server administration but offer zero fees and full control.
E-commerce integrations
If you use Shopify, WooCommerce, or Magento, check for native plugins. BitPay, Coinbase Commerce, CoinGate, and CoinPayments all offer native plugins for major platforms.
In-person payments
For physical stores, BitPay and BTCPay Server offer point-of-sale apps. Flexa specializes in zero-fee in-person payments at major US retailers.
