The SBI Visa Crypto Card is a Japanese credit card launched in May 2026 through a partnership between SBI VC Trade, APLUS, and Visa. It is designed to let users accumulate cryptocurrency through everyday spending. The card comes in two variants: a Standard card and a Gold card, both offering automatic conversion of spending points into crypto.
Rewards
The card’s reward structure is based on APLUS points that are automatically converted into the user’s chosen cryptocurrency each month:
- Standard card: 0.5% base rate, up to 0.8% with revolving payment bonus, up to 2.5% during the launch campaign (capped at 1,500 points)
- Gold card: 1.0% base rate, up to 1.3% with revolving payment bonus, up to 10% during the launch campaign (capped at 5,000 points)
Cardholders select one of three cryptocurrencies at application: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), or XRP. Once selected, the reward currency is locked and cannot be changed later.
Benefits
- First year free for both Standard and Gold cards.
- No exchange fees on point-to-crypto conversion.
- Can link to SBI Securities credit card investment trust accumulation.
- Gold tier includes airport lounge access (Priority Pass, up to 2 times/year).
- Annual fee waivers: Standard fee is waived with ¥100,000+ annual spend; Gold fee can be offset with ¥2,000,000+ annual spend.
- Shopping Guardian insurance and travel accident insurance included with Gold.
Important Considerations
The card is only available in Japan, and applicants need an SBI VC Trade account. The crypto earned through rewards may be subject to Japanese tax regulations. The card cannot be used to directly purchase cryptocurrency. The Gold card carries an annual fee of ¥6,600 (tax included) from the second year. Revolving payment settings add 0.3% to the reward rate but may incur interest charges.
